Should I take a lawyers advice on bankruptcy?

I have a lot of debt (over $70,000) and I am no longer able to pay on it. I believe in paying my debts and would like to pay eventually. I sent an email to one of those lawyers that have shows on the radio asking for advice. They replied saying I should come in for a consultation which would include looking at bankruptcy. Do you think they are looking after their own interests or mine? Would it be better to file bankruptcy than to be harassed by creditors?

  2. It’s better to take the lawyer’s advice in this type of finanacial crisis because they would have more experience in these type of cases as he is an experienced lawyer.Show all the relevant documents to him.Don’t hide anything , then it would create you a big problem in the future.

thet are looking for their as well as your interests.Their interest as well as your interests,I mean the interest and dedication towards their job.Reduce your cost of living and pay the debts eventually.

  3. If there is no way you are going to be able to get out from under the debt. Then by all means file. The longer it goes the worse the harassment is going to get.
Depending on your state, bankruptcy laws have changed in recent years. They don’t let you walk away debt free anymore. They require you pay a percentage back. Will also have you seek credit counseling.
More and more people are filing these days. So don’t let yourself feel bad about it. Give yourself a break and start over.

  4. I would visit this lawyer and listen to what he has to say. But remember, you have a choice – you don’t HAVE to listen to him. If you feel at all uncomfortable then go to another. If you didn’t trust a doctor, you wouldn’t let him perform a complex operation on you, would you? Bankruptcy, whilst not being as complex as surgery, has major life implimentations. You have a right to seek 2nd and 3rd opinions. I sought 7 and made my choice.

    Best wishes

  5. I would suggest making sure that you have a reputable credit counselor. Anyone can buy a slot on the talk show.
