Should Democrats in Congress propose to simply eliminate the debt ceiling entirely?

What’s the point of having a debt ceiling if they’re just going to keep raising it?

Why not bring it to a vote, and try to eliminate the debt ceiling entirely?

Why not be open about their real feelings about it?

Let’s see how many Republicans vote to raise the debt ceiling, when the alternative is having the federal government come to a halt, and the US Treasury to stop issuing social security checks.

    And thanks for unblocking me.

I’m actually with you on this. Instead of playing political games just admit that you want to add to the debt and then do so.

Honesty flies better with me than political games do, and I do worry about that debt. I’m far left wing but I think we need to address the debt problem. Unfortunately the Democrats might not be willing to do that; we should have raised taxes on the wealthy. ;-)

  3. No. That would remove one of the important balances in the separation of powers, Congress is to serve as the purse for the executive branch. Congress sets restrictions on debt, can authorize raising revenue, etc.
